It's Saturday. You have a cup of tea and a book. Through the window the neighbours' kids are building a snowman. You turn a page. You don't read it.
Your old school friends post photos from the reunion you said you were too busy for. You are not busy. You are watching their stories.
The office goes for drinks. You said you had a thing. The thing is your sofa. Someone's posted a picture of them laughing.
You told your partner you didn't want to go to the festival. They're there now. You've checked the weather there four times.
Why it caught on: in "That Sinking Feeling" (2010) Squidward watches SpongeBob and Patrick run around outside - in the episode he's just annoyed they're in his garden. In December 2013 a Tumblr post read the frame as pure longing, and from then on the back of Squidward's head became the face of everyone watching other people's fun from behind glass.
